is this thing on?
I moderately enjoy Facebook as a means of finding people and staying in touch. It seems to be vastly more effective than the annual Christmas newsletter or birthday card. However, there’s something that has happened to me on Facebook several times, and I don’t know whether it’s just me. It goes something like this:
Person I haven’t seen in X years: Be my friend.
Me: Cool! Ok.
Person I haven’t seen in X years: —-
(days pass)
Me: Hi! It was great to see your friend request. How have you been? I haven’t seen you since we used to lip sync Boyz II Men at summer camp.
Person I haven’t seen in X years: —–
(weeks pass)
Me (commenting on picture in album): What a great picture. Those were fun times.
Person I haven’t seen in X years: —–
So tell me why that is. Why would you attempt to get in contact with someone only to completely ignore them? Are you so desperate to up your number of Facebook friends that you crack open an old yearbook and just go down the list sending friend requests? Social media is meant to be a two-way conversation. Help me help you.

I refuse to be one of those! Its happened to me,too. I even got a friend request from one of my fiancee´s exgirlfriends who I absolutely do NOT like. What’s that about, did she honestly think I would go ahead and add her? By the way I add everybody, except for her!

I totally agree. And why does Facebook think I should know everyone that ever graduated from Texas A&M University?

I feel the same exact way and wonder why I even bother with FB still.
I have similar feelings about my blog.. see my last post about “comments” and how many comments I actually got on it.

In answer to your question, people join Facebook and then life happens and they don’t have time to mess with socializing.

The amount of status updates and posted pictures would suggest otherwise.
