good riddance, 2008
I’m a little late in the game posting this; so far I’ve spent nearly all of 2009 sick on the couch. So this year has not made a very good first impression.
However, it still has a very long way to go not to be an improvement over 2008. In fact, 2008 can kiss all of my butt. Those 365 days were some of the worst of my life. It was the pigeon to my statue. If I were to list all of the things that went wrong, it would sound like the most whiny, pitiful country song you’d ever heard. In fact, maybe I’ll try writing a country song so I can at least capitalize on it.
The good news is, even though 2008 totally beat me up and stole my lunch money, I have realized some important things:
- I am a lot stronger than I thought I was - physically and emotionally
- I have developed a knack for seeing the silver lining in every situation
- There are a lot of people who care about me
- I will never be able to do enough to repay the generosity of my friends and my parents
- My dogs are the cheapest form of therapy
- God is always there and always good
I am hoping that things will start to even out for me in 2009. But should this year suck as hard as the last, at least those truths will not change. That means I’ll still be able to deal with whatever comes my way … and that might be the most liberating realization of all.
Happy New Year!

I am proud of you. These truths will serve you well, and I’d bet there are more that you haven’t realized yet. I am right there with you, sister! Stand tall, you are doing well! Muah!

You have such a good outlook Jen and I know that God has fantastic things in store for you in 2009!

You will survive. That’s the cool thing about life; it just keeps coming and we roll with it . . .
Happ(ier) 2009!

AMEN to all that you said. On a personal note, 2008 reminded me that sometimes bad things happen to really good people; and we have no reason to expect to understand why this side of heaven. We just need to hold each other up when we get the chance.

Hi Honey! I agree, 2008 did suck. But the years to come can only get better! The only way it can get worse is if you move further away…sniff sniff…
