chick flicks
I’m going to let y’all in on a little secret. I’m not real into chick flicks. That’s right. I said it. You can revoke my chick card now. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy one every once in awhile. And there are a few I really love (*sigh* “Return to Me”). It’s just obnoxious to go to a movie and know how it’s going to end in the first fifteen minutes because you’ve seen it all before. Most chick flicks contain one or more of these elements:
Cute single girl with quirky job
Snarky best friend/sister/gay man
Love/hate relationship
The sweet guy vs. the hot douchebag.
Lip-synching or karaoke scene
Clothing montage thrown into the mix.
Prince Charming
And don’t forget the all important Motown soundtrack.
I guess I’m just hoping Hollywood will start coming up with some original ideas. Am I reaching for the stars?

Call me crazy, but I loved SATC because I thought it went deeper than the usual fare. Yes, we still had to endure TWO montages, both of which I would’ve gladly cut from the movie. But we also got to watch a tale of love, hate, pain, encouragement, etc. I expected a typical chick flick, and was pleasantly surprised to find much more.

I’m with you there. I expected it to be fluffy and self-indulgent, but I actually liked it a lot!

“Return to Me”; very good choice. I also thought that “Steel Magnolias” broke the mold, and had an amazing cast. I clearly have some sort of estrogen-testosterone imbalance, because I really enjoy some of the chickiest chick flicks out there.

And that’s why we love you

This is so true, my boyfriend and I always laugh about these hollywoodish repetitions and they happen in action films too. There are days for me however, when my brain tells me it wants to not think. These days, we rent one of these babies, they work really well for me on such ocasions of mental laziness.
