credit? what credit?

Among the things I’ve learned about Dallas, I have found that this city is full of both excess and what my accountant friends refer to as “$30,000 millionaires”. Driving by any given apartment parking lot, you can find Jaguars, Hummers, and Lexuses. You’ll see people at the Galleria buying Kate Spade bags and Shoshanna dresses, and then loading them into their Ford Tauruses. But what makes me laugh the most is the McMansions. Nothing like buying a 3,000 square foot house that looks like just like your neighbor’s 3,000 square foot house, which is only 10 feet away. In fact, if you really want to keep up with the Joneses, why not make sure you put five different building materials on the front of your house? “Oh yours is just brick? Mine is brick, stucco, stone, hardiplank, and wood. So clearly that makes me five times as awesome!”

That isn’t your house is it? If it is, I officialy tease you. If not, good call.

My neighbors have a theory that it’s a Texas thing, but I’m not ready to own up to all that.

Discojamboree: No! Not my house. If I were going to spend that on a house, it wouldn’t be this over-the-top, and it wouldn’t look like every other house on the street.

Katy: You mean they don’t do that in other states? So the whole “bigger in Texas” thing is true?

That house rocks. It looks like a castle. You know, in that world where castles fall apart in 10 years and but don’t worry because it will fall into foreclosure long before that because you bought a new Prada instead of paying your mortgage.

That world *is* funny. There’s a door to it here in Atlanta, too.

I heard that right after that picture was taken little men in chain mail popped up in the windows with bows and arrows and a little tiny container of hot tar was wheeled up over the front door.

And apparently there is a princess living on the other side of the tower waiting for her prince charming to ride up in a Range Rover.
